Adults
You rely on your sight to enjoy life to the fullest—and to get your work done. Yet, over time, your vision will change. As you age, the lens of the eye becomes less flexible, making it harder for you to focus on things closer than arm’s length. You may experience blurred vision when reading, sewing or working at the computer. It is not a disease it happens to everyone at some point in life, even if you’ve never had a vision problem before. It is called presbyopia and is just another stage in your eye’s development.

What is Presbyopia?
You’ve known about nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism for many years, and chances are good that you have one of these vision correction issues by the time you reach your forties. There is one other condition to know about−one that commonly develops in people around the age of 40; presbyopia.

Presbyopia is not a disease or an illness—it’s a normal, natural part of the aging process, and it happens to just about everyone; even if you have had laser eye surgery.

This is different from astigmatism, shortsightedness and longsightedness, which are related to the shape of the eyeball Presbyopia is generally understood to stem from a gradual loss of flexibility in the natural lens inside your eye.

Presbyopia Symptoms and Signs
Presbyopia creates an inability to focus on objects that are closer than an arm’s distance away. Words will appear blurry as you read, and you may find yourself needing more or brighter light in order to see clearly at night. You may experience difficulty reading newspapers, books, menus, and other objects at close distances, even if you’ve had perfect vision their whole lives. Many individuals also experience pain, fatigue, and headaches.

Because it is associated with aging, presbyopia is often met with a groan and an expectation that reading glasses or bifocals are inevitable. No one likes to advertise their age, especially 40-something’s Until recently this was true, now, Essilor’s progressive lenses can provide clear and comfortable vision at all distances without the hassles, vision jumps and distortions typical of bifocals or reading glasses.

What is progressive lens?
  Comfortable Vision at all distances
Progressive lenses, sometimes called "multi-focals", offer better vision, as well as greater comfort and convenience by letting you see at all distances, including arm’s length and beyond Cosmetically they are much more attractive than the old style bifocals.

Progressive lenses closely mimic natural vision before the onset of presbyopia by providing a smooth, seamless progression of many powers giving clear vision across the room, up close and all distances in between.

Natural Vision With No "Image Jump"
The visible lines in bifocals and trifocals create an abrupt change in lens power. When the wearer's vision moves across these lines, images suddenly "jump." Image jump can cause problems ranging from mildly annoyance to nausea and even for older people dangerous trips and falls.

Among our range of progressive lens, Varilux Physio 360 uses the same wavefront-guided technology used in LASIK surgery and deep space astronomy for crystal-clear optical performance over a wide field of view.
