CATARACT
The aging of the crystalline lens, which gradually becomes opaque as a result. The crystalline lens is then removed and can be replaced by an intra-ocular lens (i.e. an implant).

COATED SURFACE
An optical surface made of glass that has been coated with one or more thin, transparent layers in order to reduce losses from reflection and ghost images.

CONE
The photoreceptor cells on the retina used during photopic vision to see colours and details

CONTRAST The difference in the characteristics of two visual impressions that are juxtaposed in space or time (lighting contract, colour contrast, simultaneous or successive contrast). |
CONVERGENCE The reflex ability of the eyes to focus simultaneously on a single point in near vision. |
CORNEA The very thin, transparent, dome-shaped covering on the front portion of the eyeball. (see EYE) |
CRYSTALLINE LENS An optical lens located behind the iris, responsible for ensuring that images converge on the retina and appear in focus. (see EYE) |
