OPTIC NERVE
This nerve connects the retina of each eye to the brain, to which it transmits images via nerve impulse. (see EYE)
OPTICAL ILLUSION
A visual perception of an object, figure, distortion, etc., that does not correspond to reality.
OPTICAL POWER
Measured in diopters, this defines the ability of a lens or contact lens to correct a visual defect.
OPTOMETER
A device used to measure the refraction of the eye. Synonym: refractometer.
ORBIT
The bony cavity in which the eye as a whole rests.
