V
VISUAL ACUITY
The capacity of the eye to see a specific object height from five meters away. It is expressed in tenths: 1/10 (low vision), 10/10, etc.
VISUAL CORTEX
The part of the brain devoted to vision.
VISUAL FATIGUE
The sense of reduced visual performance, not necessarily caused by excess work.
VISUAL FIELD
The entire area that can be perceived by an immobile eye.
VISUAL PIGMENT
The photosensitive pigment found in the outer segments of receptor cells. The pigment in rods is rhodopsin.
VISUAL REEDUCATION
A set of techniques used with subjects who have vision deficiencies to enable them to regain at least partial use of their visual faculties.
VITREOUS HUMOUR
This largely gelatinous liquid fills the entire part of the eyeball located behind the crystalline lens. It has the ability to cushion impacts. (see EYE)
