The effective solution to slow down children’s myopia
progression up to 38%

A new design for children with increased comfort and improved ergonomics

Children are increasingly affected with myopia
Myopia is affecting an increasing number of children, especially in Asia. In some countries
> 80% of children are myopic.

Why are some children myopic?
Essilor, the world’s expert in corrective lens, has conducted more than 10 years of research on myopia.
While there are many factors involved from genetics to environmental, one point has unanimous
support: myopia is linked to excessive near vision activities like reading and study.

Essilor's Commitment to Myopia
In 2008, research was conducted on 485 Asian children to analyse their visual habits and anatomy. As a result of the compelling findings, a new myopia control lens – Myopilux Pro – was specially developed for Asian children. Myopilux Pro provides the widest field of vision for a myopia control lens for children. The Myopilux Pro lens is also designed to provide postural comfort by combining facial anatomy parameters and
ergonomic measures.

In a clinical study, 235 children who wore Essilor myopia control lenses for 3 years in a well-known
‘Correction of Myopia Evaluation Trial’ (COMET) study showed positive effects in reduction in
myopia progression especially for those with moderate myopia and Esophoria or Orthophoria.

MYOPILUX PRO A new Myopia Control lens

DESIGNED FOR ASIAN CHILDREN

Features

Asian children have longer eyes than children of other ethnicities. The centre of rotation of their eyes is further away from the lens and their eyes tend to sweep over a broader area of the lens. Asian children therefore require a wide, clear field of vision when using their glasses.

While analysing Asian facial anatomy, Essilor R&D discovered that, when wearing glasses certain conditions are necessary for children to experience optimal visual quality. With a less-pronounced profile and bridge of the nose, lens design for Asian children needs to take into considerations the following wearing parameters: Pantoscopic Tilt, Pupillary Distance and Back Vertex Distance.

Essilor studies also found that, in their natural working posture, Asian children hold their reading materials close to their eyes causing more convergence. Researchers also analysed children’s head/gaze vertical declination and head-eye coordination to define the most natural lens design for them.

Myopilux Pro Clinically tested

235 children wore Essilor myopia control lenses (addition +2.00) for 3 years in the well known COMET*
study.
The children noticed positive effects, particularly those with:

Moderate myopia
Esophoria or orthophoria

Exclusive to Essilor: the Myopilux selection device

In a few seconds, the Myopilux device can identify children who will derive the most benefit from Myopilux Pro.
Explain to the child that they should see two parallel coloured lines with an arrow between them. Ask them which colour the arrow points to.
