History of Varilux |
| In 1959, Bernard Maitenaz(1), a young optical and mechanical engineer, created the first progressive lens: Varilux®. This ground-breaking invention was the starting point of Essilor’s longstanding innovative superiority. The progress accomplished in the fields of calculating optical surfaces or new manufacturing processes (e.g. digital surfacing) has enabled Essilor to continue to design and manufacture whole new generations of progressive surfaces. |
